Shark Truth is a not-for-profit consumer awareness group that seeks to engage consumers in a collaborative discussion to find alternatives to shark fin soup. We are dedicated to promoting awareness around the irreversibly detrimental effects of the shark finning industry, specifically working with (and not against) consumers. Website
Dragon boating is an ancient Chinese water sport firmly rooted in myth and tradition. It started more than 2,000 years ago as a fertility rite in southern China that celebrated the coming solstice by awakening the slumbering Heavenly Dragon through the fury of their oars.
Harry's vulnerable side is irresistible.
Vancouver celebrates and continues this rich tradition by hosting the annual Dragon Boat Festival which attracts competition from teams across the globe and more than 100,000 eager spectators every year. (more…)Comments (0)
Shark Truth’s mission is to Stop the Soup one bowl at a time. Shark fin soup is popularly served at wedding banquets. This year, we launched the Happy Hearts Love Sharks wedding contest. Couples from around the world pledged to Stop the Soup at their wedding banquet. Through this year’s contest alone, our couples saved up to 360 sharks. The contest – funded by Save Our Seas Foundation and supported by our generous donors – had a total of 16 wedding banquets and 3600+ wedding banquet guests.
The winners with the most votes were announced on World Oceans Day.
Congratulations to our winning couples of the Happy Hearts Love Sharks wedding contest!

Shark fin soup – most popularly served at wedding banquets – is causing the demise of shark populations around the world. A single wedding banquet serving shark fin soup to 300 guests kills up to 30 sharks. It is a delicacy in Chinese cuisine and is served at banquets as a symbol of status and respect. It is commonly served at wedding banquets to show ‘face’ or respect to one’s guests. With China’s rising middle-class and a thriving diaspora of Cantonese communities around the world, the demand for shark fin soup continues to soar.
To engage consumers in a discussion about shark fin soup, Shark Truth focuses on working with Chinese consumers– and not against them. With the support of the Save Our Seas Foundation, Shark Truth recently launched the Happy Hearts Love Sharks Wedding Contest.
The Save Our Seas Foundation is committed to preserving our marine environment for future generations. With your help we can and will make a difference. Find out how you can support our work.
