Cheryl-Samantha Owen is an environmental journalist who works in public awareness for the Save Our Seas Foundation. Her role sees her on the marine conservation frontline, raising awareness and educating the world about the importance and relevance of marine and shark conservation. She is responsible for covering all the SOSF’s projects and unleashing the stories behind SOSF’s exciting marine research to the general public.

Trained as a conservation and marine biologist, she is also a wildlife photographer and author who specializes in documenting marine life in the oceans that surround Africa. Her work has appeared in magazines including Africa Geographic and BBC Wildlife and she is currently completing her first book, a wildlife-watching guide to southern Africa’s oceans and coast.

Cheryl-Sam was born in Kenya and has spent much of her life working on the African continent. She holds a first class honours degree from Imperial College, London and an MSc degree in Conservation Biology from the prestigious Percy Fitzpatrick Institute at the University of Cape Town. She carried out conservation fieldwork on elephants in Botswana and work on wildlife tourism in East Africa, before moving into the marine realm.
