Conservation
Protecting what we love
“It is a curious situation that the sea, from which life first arose, should now be threatened by the activities of one form of that life”.
Rachel Carson

SOSF is acutely aware that although change is constant in nature, when it comes to the marine ecosystem, humans have accelerated its rate far beyond sustainable limits. Good conservation practice is accordingly not just about enforcing static protection, but rather about understanding the nature of such variations in order to better manage them in the future.

As a consequence of this, central to our ethos at SOSF is supporting those programs that promote and explore the potential of marine conservation through both traditional and contemporary mediums; whether it’s rethinking sharks through satirical advertisements, or anti shark-finning billboards in the heart of Beijing, explore the best of global marine conservation here.

As well as undertaking its own projects, SoSF provides grants in support of conservation actions that are likely to have a significant impact in helping us protect the global marine environment.
