Education
Teaching today, changing tomorrow
“From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free”.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau

At SOSF we understand that supporting world-class research means little if the knowledge it produces never leaves the confines of journals and laboratories. Consequently, one of SOSF’s priorities is to share what we know about the critical challenges the marine environment faces through dynamic educational projects; nowhere is this more relevant then in the case of younger people, who are destined not only to become the teachers, parents and politicians of tomorrow, but are central to protecting the oceans today.

For these reasons SOSF supports an incredible range of educational initiatives, from the M-Sea programme in South Africa, to SisBro Studios’ television productions in north America, an ocean road-show travelling across the UK, all the way to a dedicated range of SOSF children’s books.

As well as undertaking its own projects, SoSF provides grants in support of educational initiatives that are likely to have a significant impact in helping us protect the global marine environment.
