As you can see in the turtles in trouble section of this site, these magnificent creatures are facing a struggle to survive. Here are 5 ways you can help make a difference:

1. Help Stop Light Pollution on Nesting Beaches
  • Whether you live or holiday on the beach insist that the places where you stay minimize their light sources so that light from the source does not reach the beach. Any artificial light source that is visible from a nesting beach may disorient sea turtles.
  • For full information on how to reduce light pollution download our "How to Help Turtles Factsheet"

2.    Do Not Litter
  • Sea turtles mistake plastic bags for jellyfish, one of their favorite foods. These fatally block the intestine and often causing the turtle to starve to death. One autopsy performed on a dead turtle revealed 1000 pieces of plastic in its stomach.
  • For more information on turtles' battle with litter download our "How to Help Turtles Factsheet".

3.    Do Not Eat Prawns / Shrimps
  • More sea turtles are killed drowning in the nets used to catch prawns than all the other sources of human activities combined.

4.    Learn more about our oceans and how turtles survive in them.
5.     Donate to SOSF and help their 6 Turtle C.A.R.E. (Conservation, Awareness, Research and Educational) projects:
