My home, the ocean, is probably like yours. It's like a big building or house, with different levels and different types of floors.

Yes indeed, the ocean has different types of land which include deserts, forests made of huge plants called kelp, huge mountains larger than the ones we see on land and green land with plenty of grass. It has areas filled with sun, where I usually like to stay and very dark areas, deep down inside, where there is no light, just wacky and weird animals and plants.

The top layer of the ocean is filled with sunlight during the daytime. This bright ocean layer is called the sunlit zone. How deep this zone is depends on how clear or murky the water is. On average, it is about 200 meters deep. The temperature in this zone is quite warm. Its the zone that you swim in when you go to the sea side.

In this zone, there is enough light for plants to be able to make their food so many plants and other little creatures, live in this zone and food is plenty. When plants make their food, they produce oxygen, which we need to survive.

There are also other small living creatures called phytoplankton, which produce a lot of oxygen and little fish feed on these things. That is why many animals also live in this zone. In fact, most of the life in the ocean is found in this zone, although it is the smallest ocean zone because it is the shallowest.

Examples of these animals include most ocean fish such as my family, the Sharks, jellyfish, sea turtles, seals, corals and many more.
